Kentucky Light Wins a Silver Medal at the World Beer Championship

Alltech Press Release
6/15/2009

[Lexington, KENTUCKY] – Kentucky Light has received a silver medal at the 2009 World Beer Championship held at Beverage Testing Institute in Chicago. The Beverage Testing Institute is dedicated to beverage testing consistency with a lab specially designed to minimize external factors and maximize panelists’ concentration. Each tasting is done under the same ideal conditions, rather than at a brewery where variation could occur. Panelists are highly experienced professional guest tasters, ranging from retailers, restaurateurs, to prominent writers. Kentucky Light scored an 85, in the highly recommended rating class, joining Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale and Kentucky Ale that previously received gold and silver medals respectively at the World Beer Championship.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our beers as we gear up for the biggest event to hit the U.S. since the 2002 Winter Olympics. We know that we will be providing the highest quality beers and this award solidifies that,” said Alltech president and founder, Pearse Lyons, referring the official beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games. “We are proud to represent Kentucky as the Commonwealth’s only recipient of these awards, just as proud as we are to be the official beer of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.”
Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale are Lexington's only locally-brewed beers. Located in the heart of downtown, Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company has been creating award-winning beers since 2000 when its flagship beer, Kentucky Ale, was released. Kentucky Light debuted in 2003, and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale completed Kentucky’s Triple Crown of Beers in 2006. Past awards include a silver and a bronze medal at the Great American Beer Festival and “Best of the Bluegrass” for 4 consecutive years.
Alltech, the title sponsor of the World Equestrian Games, owns the Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Company that produces Kentucky Ale, Kentucky Light, and Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Kentucky Ale products will be the exclusive beer available to the general public at the Kentucky Horse Park during the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games.

The Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games are the world championships of eight equestrian disciplines recognized by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI), and are held every four years. The Games have never before been held outside of Europe; nor have all eight disciplines competed at a single site—both firsts that will be achieved at the Kentucky Horse Park from September 25 – October 10, 2010.
